To survive, our bodies need a minimum wage of protein, which is found in protein-rich foods such as meats, milk, fish, and eggs. We find this protein in vegetables, so we are always told to eat one vegetable a day to maintain our health and well-being. In addition to our health, proteins also maintain our skin, bones, and hair at their best.

The antibodies that we need to fight infections and illnesses are commonly found on a well-balanced diet. Protein deficiency will make us more vulnerable to catching a virus, and foods high in salt and sugar tend to cause obesity and diabetes.

Although some fruits and vegetables, like spinach, lettuce, and broccoli, contain a high level of sugar, our bodies will level it out to obtain more proteins for our blood and cells. Moreover, it will convert sugar into energy to balance out its needs.

According to American dietary guidelines, men over the age of 19 require at least 56 grams of protein to live a healthy life. At that age, our digestive system is still regenerating and will help our metabolism run smoothly. Also, our body is learning how to control our hormones. A high-protein diet every day will support hormone regulation and transform the developing cells during puberty.

Knowing all of this will make us think about the well-being of our loved ones, especially our pets, watching out for what they need to eat to maintain them healthy and strong. But cats, in this case, do not necessarily obtain their protein from vegetables. As obligate carnivores, they will mainly get the nutrients needed from the meat they eat.

Cats require at least 2 grams of protein to maintain the level of their digestive system. It is important to check how many grams of food they eat and the percentage of protein on that food if we want to ensure they are getting the necessary proteins for their health.

To determine the correct amount of proteins for our cats, we need to weigh them. However, canned food usually offered about 30 grams on each cam, so you can measure to give them at least 5.5 ounces on every meal to keep watch out they are getting enough for their bodies.

It is crucial to watch out for our cat’s protein levels since this is their primary energy source. Unlike other animals, the cat’s liver is constantly going up and down, and a good diet will maintain the blood glucose levels regularized.

Unlike us, the source of protein for a cat is not mainly veggies. Cats could obtain this protein from a meat meal or a plant meal which can come from cooked beef, chicken, or turkey, and soybean or rice protein concentrate.

However, if we still want to give some vegetables to our cat, we need to be very careful aside from the fact that not all the cats like them. Small amounts of vegetables aren’t very harmful, but make sure to check with your vegetarian first so that your cat doesn’t catch any bacteria.

If you are thinking of becoming vegetarian or vegan and want to start implementing this diet to your cat, there is some controversy among vets about doing so. Giving some vegetables to your cat could be okay from time to time but is not recommended on their daily diet because, as previously stated, their digestive system is much better suited to a meat diet.

Cats should not be fed on an all-vegetable diet because it could harm their nutrition, but giving them some vegetables every now and then could be beneficial for their health as long as we are feeding them in an appropriate quantity.

Even though vegetables are not strongly necessary on your cat’s diet, they could add some nutritional and digestive benefits because many contain magnesium, potassium, fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants that could be useful for their immune system. Vegetables also have a lot of carbohydrates, and unlike us, cats do not require a large amount, and overloading them could lead to cat obesity which is not healthy for our beloved kitty. But, if you are trying to have your cat lose weight, vegetables are a good option.

Some of them could be saved as a low-calorie alternative rather than treats or tuna, but some vegetables could contain substances that are toxic for your cat.

What Kind Of Vegetables Can My Cat Eat?


We have established a healthy way of giving vegetables to our cats without being very harmful to their health, but what kind of vegetables are safe? Because what we are looking for is to maintain our cats healthy and prevent them from getting sick, and most human foods will hurt them.


You can give broccoli to your cat but in small portions. It is safe to eat because they contain beneficial antioxidants.

Steamed Carrots

This type of green food could also be an anti-inflammatory for felines. Still, it is recommended that spinach be given in low volumes because of the amount of oxalate that could affect your cat’s urinary tract.

Besides vegetables, you can also give some fruit to your cats like apples, bananas, oranges, or peaches. Just be aware of not providing large amounts of human food because their digestive system is different from humans and does not process food the same way.

It is necessary to consult your veterinarian when planning on changing your cat’s diet because it could affect them. Plus, cats are creatures of habit, so if the food you are giving them is not causing any harmful issues, try not to change it unless you have a specific purpose for it, like weight loss or improving their hair.
