Parti Yorki is a friendly, lovely, and fun family dog. Just like the popular Yorkies, people are often mistaking the Parti Yorki with the Yorkies; although Parti Yorkies have the same traits as the Yorkies, the major difference between them is in their colors. Parti Yorkies can also be golden or blonde.
Parti Yorkies are slowly becoming popular breeds, and their tri-colored fur is the major reason for the attraction. They are fun dogs, loyal, and perfect for families living in apartments. Parti Yorkies are not designer dogs; this is a misconception. They are purebred Yorkies with a rare recessive gene.
In the mid to late 20th century, Parti Yorkies were not liked; breeders with Parti Yorkies in the litter often put them down or gave them away. Now, these dogs are treasured and are now expensive.
What Are Parti Yorki?
Parti Yorki is the same as Yorkshire Terriers, but with a difference in their color scheme. The traditional Yorkies come in black and blue, black and tan, or blue and tan color. However, Parti Yorkies come in a combination of these colors, which could be tan, white, brown, and black fur. They are tri-colored Yorkies.
The history of Parti Yorki could be traced down to a long time since Yorkshire Terriers have been known. In the 19th century, breeding amongst Yorkshire Terriers produced some litters with a distinct color. The breeders then felt these sets of dogs were of low quality compared to the parent Yorkies. So, they were given out or even killed in order not to breed them further.
Sometimes in the 1980s, a particular breeder named Mrs. Gloria Lipman found the Parti Yorki breed color appealing. So, she then decided to breed them. Since then, this dog breed has become very attractive and popular. Also, other breeders had started rearing the Parti Yorki.
In 2000, the American Kennel Club officially registered and accepted this breed as a purebred of its own. Parti Yorkies are small in size. When fully grown, they have a height of about 7 to 8 inches while weighing between 4 to 7 pounds. They have a life expectancy of about 12 to 15 years. Parti Yorkies have a shiny and silky coat.
Naturally, their coats grow very long and sometimes touch the ground if left. It is best to always have their hair cropped to aid easier care and maintenance. Parti Yorkies have a good personality; they are loyal, brave, and protective of their owners. They tend to bark at strangers and can be aggressive sometimes.
These breeds often do well more in families with older children. No matter how friendly or great a dog is, there are some forms of play that you must avoid. Ensure you do not leave little kids with them. Parti Yorkies want affection and do not like being left alone for too long. They could develop separation anxiety or feel depressed when left alone.
Socialization and proper training are important for dogs. These breeds are usually accommodating with other pets, especially those they grew up with and have become familiar with. However, be careful when introducing a new pet to the house. Parti Yorkies could become very aggressive towards them.
How Much Is A Parti Yorki?
Parti Yorkies are more expensive compared to the traditional Yorkshire Terriers. Generally, the price range is about $1,500 to $4,000. Remember, we already stated above that these breeds are pure breeds. Usually, pure breeds are always expensive compared to mixed breeds. Also, these dogs are unique in terms of the recessive gene present in their parent breeds.
In order to get a Parti Yorki, specific tests are usually conducted on the Yorkshire Terriers before being bred together. This helps determine if the dogs have the parti gene (a recessive gene) responsible for producing Parti Yorkies. Other health tests are also done on the parent breeds to ensure healthy litters.
These tests are usually expensive, thereby causing an increase in the price of the dogs. Also, being registered with the American Kennel Club (AKC) influences their price. Some Parti Yorki could also go for as high as $10,000. These are common in the parents that have excelled in certain dog-winning shows or competitions.
Do Parti Yorkies Have Health Problems?
Most of the best dog breeds, including pure breeds, mixed breeds, and hybrids, tend to be susceptible to various health issues. Parti Yorkies are likely to suffer the same health problems experienced by Yorkshire Terriers. An owner needs to be informed about these health challenges and how they occur before getting one. Some of the health problems are;
Hypoglycemia:
This life-threatening disease occurs in Parti Yorkies due to a drop in their sugar level. It is evident more in puppies that are under five months of age. The symptoms of this disease are vomiting, weakness, seizures.
When your dog is faced with Hypoglycemia, it is best to take it to a veterinary doctor for a check-up and proper treatment. However, in a bid to quickly save and stabilize your dog’s health before getting to the vet, add sugar syrup to your dog’s mouth.
Periodontal Disease:
Parti Yorkies have up to 42 teeth in their mouth, and they are prone to having some dental issues. This can then lead to plaque buildup, which eventually causes decay and other gum diseases. Some symptoms of periodontal disease are bad breath, loss of teeth, or even difficulty in eating.
To prevent this disease, ensure you brush your dog’s teeth daily. This helps to prevent the buildup of plaque. Also, ensure you take your dog for a professional check-up from time to time.

Dry Eyes
This health issue is also referred to as KCS or Keratoconjunctivitis sicca. This is an immune-mediated issue, and it is caused by inflamed tear glands (this is when the dog is unable to produce enough tears to keep the eyes lubricated).
It is a chronic inflammatory condition that affects the PTF or precorneal tear film that keeps the cornea healthy, provides nutrition and oxygen to the eye tissues, and gets rid of debris from the eye surface.
Luxating Patella:
This condition occurs when there is a dislocation in your dogs’ kneecap. When the dislocation occurs, it causes much pain. This could result from the muscles being weak and unable to hold the kneecap firmly. Also, it happens more in young Parti Yorkies.
Watch out for this condition when you notice your dog has difficulties walking properly. Depending on how severe the dislocation is, surgery, massage, and therapy might be required for its treatment.

Are Parti Yorkies Easy To Train?
Parti Yorkies are intelligent breeds, and this intelligence is one of the propelling forces behind their desire and willingness to please their owners. This trait makes it easy to train a Parti Yorki. Positive reinforcement is one of the best ways to train a Parti Yorki; they love tasty treats and praises. Combining these two makes them responsive to training.
Another essential thing is that you should always keep the training sessions interesting and short. It is best to start while the dog is a puppy, and you must continually reassure your puppy when it is obedient and doing what is right. However, one of the most difficult things to train a Parti Yorki to do is potty training.
Final Thoughts
Parti Yorkies are great family dogs; their small stature should not deceive you; they are full of lots of energy. These breeds can also be temperamental and stubborn, so you need to be patient and experienced to handle them properly. Before you purchase a Parti Yorki, you need to know the pros and cons of this breed.
